Telugu film "Drushyam", starring Venkatesh and Meena, has been performing steadily at the AP/Nizam box office.
The film took a good opening on the first day of its release, but its collections witnessed some drops on the second day. However, the Venkatesh starrer picked up on Sunday and posted decent collections. The film has raked in approximately ₹4.65 crore share in its opening weekend at the AP/Nizam box office, according to Andhraboxoffice website. "Drushyam", a remake of Malayalam blockbuster "Drishyam", opened to good reviews from critics. Audience also seems to have been impressed with the Ventakesh starrer, which is evident from the collections. Thanks to the family content, "Drushyam" has managed to bring family audience to the theatres.
"Drushyam" is also performing well in overseas markets. According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the thriller family drama earned ₹1.39 crore (gross) from 65 screens in its opening weekend at the U.S. box office.
The film has managed to surpass the collections of Vidya Balan's "Bobby Jasoos", which has grossed ₹1.08 crore from 34 screens at the end of the second weekend in the U.S. However, "Drushyam" failed to beat the first weekend collections of recently-released bollywood film "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya" at the US box office. The Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt starrer has earned ₹1.93 crore from 87 screens in its debut weekend in the U.S., according to Bollywood Hungama.
While "Drushyam" opening weekend collections have been decent, it needs to be seen if the film manages to sustain its business during the weekdays.
Directed by Sripiya, "Drushyam" has Nadhiya, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Chalapathi Rao, Naresh, Chaitanya Krishna, Ravi Kale, Kruthika Jayakumar and Esther in supporting roles. The film's story is by Jeetu Josephy, who directed the original version. D. Suresh Babu and Rajkumar Sethupathi have produced the project.
"Drishyam" (original version) was one of the biggest hits in the Malayalam cinema industry. Following the stupendous success of the film, the film's Kannada, Telugu and Tamil remake rights were bagged by makers from these industries. The Kannada and the Telugu version, which have hit screens, have been doing good business at the box office.
The Tamil version, featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role, is all set to go on floors soon. While "Drishyam" director will be helming the project, details about the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. Buzz is that actress Gauthami will be reprising Meena's role in the Tamil version, but an official confirmation is still awaited in this regard.

Kamal Haasan is currently busy with "Uttama Villain" and the post-production work of "Vishawaroopam 2." After completing his current assignments, he is likely to commence shooting for "Drishyam" remake.
