The 61st Idea Filmfare Awards (South) is all set to take place at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, on 12 July. The nominations for all the south film industries including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada have been announced under various categories.
Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan has once again been nominated for the best actor (male) award for his 2013 blockbuster flick "Attarintiki Daredi." The actor's name features along with Mahesh Babu ("Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu"), Nithiin ("Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde"), Prabhas ("Mirchi") and Ram Charan ("Naayak") in the best actor (male) category. All the four films were successful at the box office last year and the performances of the leads were well appreciated by the audience. Pawan's "Attarintiki Daredi" emerged as the biggest hit of the year, receiving fantastic reviews from the critics and audience alike. Power Star's performance also won accolades from all sections of people.
Last year, Kalyan was selected as the best actor for his role in "Gabbar Singh" by beating Mahesh Babu ("Businessman"), Nagarjuna ("Damarukam"), Ram Charan ("Racha") and Nithiin ("Ishq"). It will be interesting to see if the power star will beat the others named in the same category and win the Filmfare award for the second consecutive time.
Besides best actor (male) award, "Attarintiki Daredi" has been nominated under several other categories including best film, best actor (female) - Samantha, best director - Trivikram, best music – Devi Sri Prasad, best supporting actor (female) – Nadiya Moidu and Praneetha Subash, best lyricist – Srimani, best playback singer (male) – Shankar Mahadevan.
