Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer "Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty" has been going rock steady at the box offices in India. The film has become the fourth highest grosser of 2014 by earning ₹62.76 crore.
The film, which is an action thriller showcasing Indian army in the positive light, has received very good response from audiences across the country.
The film features Kumar in action role again. Following two flop films last year, Kumar has regained his position at the box office with "Holiday."
In six days, the film has managed to take its domestic total to ₹62.76 crore. Looking at the six days collection, the film will cross the ₹100 crore mark within second weekend.
The film has now shattered the records of Kangana Ranaut's "Queen." Ranaut starrer "Queen" had a phenomenal box office run in India. In its four weeks theatrical run, the film raked in ₹61 crore.
But, "Holiday" has beaten the records of "Queen" in India and has become the fourth highest grosser film of 2014.
"#Holiday Fri 12.08 cr, Sat 12.46 cr, Sun 16.85 cr, Mon 8.10 cr, Tue 7.09 cr, Wed 6.18 cr. Total: ₹ 62.76 cr nett. India biz. SUPERB," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the six days collection.
"Holiday" has worked well at the box office due to various factors. First, the film is directed by AR Murugadoss, who's last directorial film "Ghajini" was a blockbuster hit.
Secondly, the film is a remake of Ilayathalapathy Vijay starrer blockbuster Tamil film "Thuppakki" due to which the film has received good response at the South Indian box office.
Thirdly, the film had the widest release in India and overseas market, releasing in over 3,500 screens in India and 400 screens overseas.
Fourth, the film features Khiladi Kumar in the action role.
"Filmistaan" released along with "Holiday" is also performing very well in India. The weekdays collection of "Filmistaan" is better than the opening day.
"#Filmistaan Fri 51 lacs, Sat 1.04 cr, Sun 1.26 cr, Mon 54 lacs, Tue 56 lacs, Wed 51 lacs. Total: ₹ 4.42 cr nett. India biz. STEADY," Adarsh tweeted.
The film is working well at the box office due to the positive word of mouth.
