Prabhanjanam Movie is a socio-political drama directed by Bhaskar Rao Vendrati. Apart from being the director Vendratti has written the screenplay of the movie and has also produced the venture under the Chaitanya Art Creations banner.
Ajmal Ameer's unfathomable fascination for a Rangam-like backdrop is what Prabhanjanam is all about. He makes the mistakes that newcomers are often stereotyped for; tasting early success and not having the vision to look beyond them. As large as its aspirations turn out to be, Prabhanjanam speaks about the timeless ideologies of freedom-fighters, an economically equal society sans caste, race-based reservations and the voter's undeniable authority in an election amidst a near-laughable setting where a chief-ministerial candidate starts reading the Indian Constitution after deciding to enter politics and understand people.
The film is very convenient in its transitions that it takes four-year-leaps within ten minutes, commencing from a sexist ragging scene to a farewell track without a mere mention or a visual of the ensuing journey in between. Chaitanya (Ajmal), the son of an established politician has friends whose aims vary from being an IAS to an IIM graduate. But, when a character simply dances in front of a canteen crowd to a background that plays Kevvu Keka in a sudden out-pour of excitement for bagging a seat in a coveted institute, you look at the celluloid with an amount of frustration.
After the inability of another studious pal of theirs to clear a national-level exam who later commits suicide, the group goes on to file a case in the court to put an end to the flawed system and corrupt practices. The arguments are absolutely delightful pieces if one had to go by the unintentional humour that is on offer. The background score is completely uncalled for and post this, an intermission logo is displayed much to the temporary relief that a viewer is gifted after scraping past the catastrophic hour. The break gives you a thought on the wide accessibility of the medium to aspirants and amateurs and it being reduced to a joke, indeed an abuse.
Sadly, there's nothing that spares a viewer off the director Bhaskar Rao Vendrathi's idiosyncrasies after the first-half too. There are enough lazy pre-election campaigns, speeches and ill-intentioned projections of a political atmosphere where Ajmal says he wants the voters to 'Educate, Agitate and Organise'.
A collector desiring a 'equitable and a sustainable society' slaps a corrupt officer who doesn't want 'Raaji' (compromise) and instead does a 'Rajinama' (resignation) in addition to a wannabe entrepreneur gives up his IIM seat to takeover his dad's industry and the duo alter their aims within a few moments to support the political change that Chaitanya is about to bring, thanks to the transformation resulting from his father's (Naga Babu) speech which has him model into a motivated change-maker from a good-for-nothing graduate almost instantaneously.
Nasser, as a yesteryear follower of B R Ambedkar steps into the scene suddenly to shout pointless sense-bursting lines about history, his hope for a change and on the other side, you have a proclaimed item-number that says you to sell yourself for the money and beer that political parties offer. In a sequence where Chaitanya tells about the power of a vote, he lands up at a drunkard and gives him Rs. 365 mouthing a heart-crunching logic that would put topmost economists and financial planners to utter shame.

Prabhanjanam is the biggest low that Telugu cinema could have ever seen in the recent past and even go on to witness in the times ahead. It has a lot of bigwigs included in the cast in the form of Kota, Ahuti Prasad, Naga Babu, Nasser and Banerjee who only add an insult to their enriching filmographies. A complete waste of resources from the perspectives of the producer, director, spectator and its lead cast (Ajmal, Aarushi, Sandesh and Panchi Bora), Prabhanjanam is a sad example of how not to make a film.
