Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer "2 States" has opened on a spectacular note earning ₹12.42 crore.
The romantic film had the third-highest opening day earnings in 2014, after Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" and Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor's "Gunday".

As reported, "2 States" opened well on the foremost day in Indian theaters. The film registered very good occupancy at the box office due to Good Friday holiday across the country.
The morning shows opened with 50 percent occupancy at several circuits. Though in the evening and night shows the occupancy was expected to go down due to Indian Premiere League season matches, theatres witnessed good occupancy with several circuits having housefull shows.
Not only in India, the film opened to a positive response even in the international arena. In India the film has been released in 2000 screens, while in overseas market it has been released in 300 screens.
Thursday's preview and opening day collection of UK circuit is ₹75.36 lakh, Australia is ₹43.43 lakh and New Zealand is ₹16.70 lakh.

The collection at both domestic and overseas market is expected to grow during the weekend, as it is backed by rave reviews and positive word of mouth.
The film directed by Abhishek Varma also features Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh, Shiv Kumar Subramaniam and Revathy in important roles.
