"Ek Villain" has become the third highest grossing film of the year, pushing "2 States" to the fourth spot.
Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor starrer "Ek Villain" started third week on a decent note. The screen count declined drastically due to new releases, but still the film managed to rake in moolah at the box office.
On third Friday, the film minted approximately ₹1 to ₹1.2 crore as per early estimates. The overall total of the film has now crossed ₹102 crore mark, beating Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor's "2 States".
With around ₹103 crore in its kitty, the film has taken the third spot in the list of highest grossinng films, which is still ruled by Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" with ₹116 crore and Akshay Kumar's "Holiday-A Soldier Is Never Off Duty" at second spot with ₹114 crore.
However, it is unlikely that the film will beat "Holiday" or "Jai Ho" as the screen count has reduced drastically. The film is now screened in less than 500 screens in India.
Also, Varun Dhawan and Bhatt starrer "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" is expected to lead the box office this week and Riteish Deshmukh's "Lai Bhaari" to lead in Maharashtra box offices.
Both the new releases will slow down the pace of "Ek Villain" at the box office, which will have an impact on its third week income.
Meanwhile, Deshmukh is very touched with the response he received for his performance as a serial killer in the film "Ek Villain".
This is for the first time the actor has done a negative role for which he got rave reviews. "We all went with a gut feeling and the character evolved while shooting," Deshmukh told Bollywood Hungama.
"I have done my comedy seriously and now have played a villain seriously too. I am glad that the first time I have played a villain; it has been for a film like Ek Villain."
When asked about the film's success and it touching the century mark, he said that it's his personal victory.
