Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor starrer "Ek Villain" has achieved the blockbuster status. The action thriller's pace at the box office has slowed down due to new releases, but the film is still faring well at collection centers.
"Ek Villain" is Malhotra and Kapoor's first blockbuster movie and first film to cross the ₹100 crore mark at the domestic box office.
Mohit Suri's directorial film finished its 17 days run in India on Sunday and the film did a business of around ₹103.37 crore from its theatrical run.
"Ek Villain" had dominated the collection centers for two weeks. The film had a strong hold at the theaters across the country until the release of "Lai Bhaari" in Maharashtra and "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" across the country.
The film was released in over 2500 screens in India in first week and in second the screen count reduced to 1700, but it didn't affect the business of the film much.
The business as well as screen count went down drastically in third week due to new releases. Also, producer Ekta Kapoor had pulled down the shows from several theaters in Maharashtra, as the theaters owners were reportedly manipulating the box office numbers.
Nonetheless, the film is expected to clock in decent amount from the third week and fourth weekend run in India.
Kapoor, who plays the female lead role, has thanked audience for watching the film and making it a blockbuster hit.
"It's all because you guys bought those tickets & went & watched #EkVillain & gave it so much love. THAAAAANNNKKK YYOOUUUUUU!!! Woohoooo," she tweeted.
Meanwhile, after the success of "Ek Villain", Malhotra is gearing up for his next film, which is a remake of "The Warrior".
Apart from Malhotra, the film also features Akshay Kumar and Jackie Shroff in the lead roles.

"The film I am doing next is very exciting. It has an interesting script and it has lot of scope for two characters. It is about mixed martial arts and fighting. I will have to start training for it soon," Malhotra told Press Trust of India in an interview last month.
