For the first time, a person from film fraternity has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the issues of a film industry. He happens to Tamil superstar Ilayathalapathy Vijay. Talking about the troubling service-tax issue, he tried to address issues being faced by producers, distributors and others.

In his letter to Narendra Modi, Vijay requested the PM to withdraw service tax and save the industry. He pointed out that service tax is making many producers think twice before entering film industry. Also Vijay made an appeal to PM that scarping service tax would save some senior producers and theatre owners from making losses.

In fact, every producer should pay entertainment tax to Centre but they should pay service tax for benefit of the state. And in Tamilnadu, those films that get U certificate from Censor will get 30% tax exemption and others have to pay it without any fail.
Vijay Writes to Narendra Modi on Withdrawal of Service Tax Addressing problems of Film Industry Letter Tamil Star Ilayathalapathy
Critical Take: Rather asking for removal of service tax, Star heroes, heroines should cut their remunerations which would benefit producers. And Vijay should have also demanded for an even tax-system in Tamilnadu for all films despite the kind of censor certificate they get.
