Actress turned producer Pooja Gandhi can now go ahead and complete the shooting of her film "Abhinetri." Justice BV Nagarathna of Karnataka High Court has given permission to complete the shooting of "Abhinetri" before 30 June and submit film's unedited version to the court. The film will be watched on 1 July.
The lower court had earlier issued a stay for the film owing to a copyright issue. Novelist Bhagya Lakshmi had approached the court alleging that the film is based on her novel "Abhinetriya Antaranaga" which was written for a weekly Kannada Magazine Mangala in 2003. Gandhi had challenged the order seeking approval to complete and release her film.
"I believe in justice in the court of law and I'm 100 percent sure that I will emerge victorious," said Pooja Gandhi to Times of India.
The film is said to be inspired by the life of famous Kannada actress Kalpana. She was known as 'Minugu Thaare,' a shining star in the industry. She was known for her highly commercial successful films in 1960's and 1970's. She was well acclaimed for her acting in movies like "Belli Moda" (1967), "Kappu Bilupu" (1969), "Gejje Pooje" (1969), "Sharapanjara" (1971), "Eradu Kansu" (1974), "Bayalu Daari" (1977), "Gandhada Gudi" (1973) and "Bangaru Hoovu" (1967). She was also considered as a fashion icon of her time. Her elegance and sophisticate style of dressing made her the ultimate star of those days. She was an ultimate competition for all her contemporary actresses. Kalpana was termed as directors' favourite actress. She was paired with Raj Kumar, Gangadhar and Udhaya Kumar very frequently which were big hits in the box offices.
Unlike her career, Kalpana's personnel space always remained mysterious to the outside world. Within the industry, she was also known for her volatile temper and strong dislikes and likes. She was linked romantically with her mentor Kanagal and they later went apart. She was later married to Gudigeri Basavaraj, the owner of the drama company for which she was working for. Stories were that the couple had a huge fight one night which turned to the extent of physical abuse. Kalpana committed suicide on the next day of fight. She had swallowed sleeping pills and diamond from her ring. Kalpana's status as a leading heroine had diminished towards her end and was the forgotten star of the industry.

Rumours suggest that "Abhinetri" will give insight to the shining star's life. The film is directed by Sathish Prathan. The film has the star cast of Srinagar Kitty, Atul Kulkarni, P Ravi Shankar, Makarand Deshpande and Neethu in the lead roles. Music for the film is composed by Mano Murthy and lyrics are penned by Jayant Kaikini and V Nagendra Prasad.
