The film marks the second time Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu are together after block buster Simha Devi Sri Prasad composes music for the first time with Balakrishna and third time teaming up with Boyapati Srinu after Bhadra and Tulasi. Legend is an action movie which is made around Balakrishna's character. He plays the role of a powerful larger than life social crusader. He is valiant and fearless as he battles goons. Consequently, he comes up against Jagapathi Babu who is known for his family roles. His new enemy is as powerful as he is. So, how he triumphs against his new foe is the plot of the movie legend.
Director Srinu has done a clever work in this movie as he predominantly focuses on lead role's larger than life persona. The fight sequences are choreographed to perfection. The acting of two leading man Balakrishna and Jagapathi is absolutely top-notch. They efficiently portray their respective characters with distinction. Though the plot of the movie is little weak, still is enough to carry the movie forward. Overall, Legend is a decent movie, a must watch for the Balakrishna fans.

Story:
Krishna (Balakrishna) falls in love with Vizag collector Gajendra (Ahuthi Prasad)'s daughter Sonal Chauhan. To make things clear with his family Krishna, Sonal with Manikyam (Bhramanandam) leave to India to attend a marriage in Vizag, with the support of the family Krishna and Sonal plan to get engaged. But things change as Jitendra (JagapathiBabu) hunts down Krishna with the help of Raghavaiyaa (Chalapathi Rao) and Sonal Chauhan. Jitendra pens down a pen to kill Krishna and family, but he undergoes unknown circumstances and leaves his thugs to finish the things up. Jayadev comes to rescue Krishna and family. Who is Jayadev? Whats is relation with Krishna? Why he opposes Jitendra forms rest of the storyline.
Analysis :
Legend starts in a decent way ends first half with a rocking interval bang. But things slow down as flash back surfaces and start dragging with romantic scenes. With honest passion the makers have provided a nice thread that shows promise as a one line. A thin plot, fine performances, good punch lines and Jalapathy Babu as villain makes to settle down and continue till the end. Over all, A pretty old subject, but Legend provides whats expected from Boyapati Srinu and Balakrishna combination with Pulsating lines and Powerful action.
Performances:
Balakrishna: It is cakewalk for Balakrishna all through the film. One cannot imagine any other actor in the role of Jayadev. Balakrishna roars like a Lion making this film a feast for his diehard fans. There are many scenes where fans would go berserk. Boyapati Srinu is the only director to present Balakrishna in such a powerful way after B. Gopal. He repeated the magic of Simha in few scenes, especially in the second half.
Jagapathi Babu: Jagapathi Babu took up the challenge of playing the antagonist in a film where Balakrishna owns the show. He came out in flying colors with one of his career best performances. He looked menacing as the villain with that white beard and superbly designed costumes. His rugged voice added extra spice to the character. Jagapathi Babu is one of the main assets of this film without an iota of doubt. Balakrishna's heroism has been elevated to another level due to Jagapathi's wonderful portrayal of the villain character.
Radhika Apte is apt and Sonal Chauhan sizzles in her brief role. Brahmanandam irritates a bit. Jayaprakash Reddy, Brahmaji, LB Sri Ram and others have shined in the roles assigned to them.
Perspective:
Boyapati Srinu's Legend has everything that is trademark of every film he makes a script with mass elements, bloodshed with minor political touch and family issues. The film has a simple plot but suffers due to its pace. Ideally the runtime should have been a good 20 minutes shorter and a few unnecessary scenes were better avoided. Director Boyapati's Legend has been packaged as a commercial mass entertainer, where a person who wanna lead the poor to make people sustain in this corrupt society. Though the narrative style is rather superannuated, the film has its moments.
Direction and screenplay of the film is inconsistent. The actual story of the film starts just before interval. This film is not what we expect from Boyapati Srinu who has given films like Simha, Tulasi & Bhadra. The comedy tracks do not serve the purpose of entertaining the audiences. Dialogues in the film provide some good support this mass film. "Narake kodhi neeku alapu vasthadi emo naku oopu vasthadi", "Nenu okkadiki yeduru vellina vadike risk, vadu naku yeduru vachina vadike risk" are few samples what we get to hear in the film.
Technicalities:
Music: Devi Sri Prasad is not used to give music to such high voltage mass films. His background score for this film is in sync with the proceedings and took it to next level. On the downside Songs are not up to DSP standards barring Legend title song.
Direction: Boyapati Srinu is a master in working the emotions that connects instantly with the masses. He studied and understood the image of Balakrishna better than any of the current directors. He has done a wonderful job in the second half. Should have taken care on the first half which was pale and dull compared to high octane second half.
